Services: Structured literacy tutoring and reading assessment for multilingual and globally mobile children who are struggling to learn to read in English.

Structured literacy is an approach grounded in the science of reading that is direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and cumulative. It teaches foundational language skills by simultaneously engaging visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways. Rather than relying on context clues or memorization, students are explicitly taught how English sounds, spelling patterns, syllable types, and word structure actually work.

My TESOL MA adds a critical dimension for multilingual learners. Understanding how a child’s home language shapes the way they process English in print allows me to anticipate where cross-linguistic interference is likely to show up and address it directly within structured literacy instruction. This means instruction is not only explicit and systematic, but also responsive to each child’s full linguistic background.

I offer two core services:

Reading Snapshot
: A 45-60 minute diagnostic assessment designed to identify exactly where a child is getting stuck. Includes evaluation of phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, and language factors, followed by a written report with findings and recommendations. This is often the first step for families who are not yet sure what kind of support their child needs.

Ongoing Structured Literacy Instruction: Individualized, research-based instruction targeting each child’s specific skill gaps, delivered in consistent sessions with ongoing assessment and progress monitoring.

Client groups: Children in grades K-8 (approximately ages 5-14), with a focus on multilingual learners, internationally mobile and third culture kids, and children whose reading difficulties may be complicated by cross-linguistic interference, gaps in foundational instruction from moving between school systems, or an underlying phonological processing difficulty such as dyslexia. I also consult with parents who want to better understand what is driving their child’s reading struggles and what to do next.

Location and session type: Based in Michigan, USA. All sessions are delivered online and available to families globally. My morning and midday hours in the US align with after-school and evening hours across Europe and the Middle East
